Ask a Question
  1. 01

How much does a fitted wardrobe cost in Birmingham?

Every fitted wardrobe is built to the exact dimensions of your room, so pricing is worked out per project rather than off a price list. Cost depends on the size of the run, the door style and finish, the internal layout — drawers, hanging rails, shelving — and any awkward features the build needs to work around, such as sloped ceilings, alcoves or chimney breasts. After a free site visit you receive a detailed written quote within 48 hours covering build, install, materials and hardware. No hidden extras and no estimate that quietly becomes something else later.

  2. 02

How much does a media wall cost?

Media walls are priced per project, because every wall is built around a specific TV size, room layout and the features you want around it. The main variables are the surface area, the finish — painted MDF, wood veneer, reeded panelling — whether there is a fireplace or integrated storage, and how the cable management is run. After the site visit you receive a written quote within 48 hours, broken down so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Vague estimates are not how we work.

  3. 03

How much does under-stair storage cost?

Under-stair pricing depends entirely on the shape of the staircase and what you want the space to do — pull-out drawers, a cupboard with shelving, hanging space for coats, or a combination of all three. The awkward angles under stairs add complexity, but that complexity is exactly what you are paying a bespoke maker to handle properly. You receive a written quote within 48 hours of the site visit covering the full build, install and any hardware. Every figure is itemised.

  4. 04

    How long does installation take?

From the day you accept the quote to the day the unit is fitted is typically 2 to 4 weeks, depending on scope and where you fall in the current schedule. The install itself is usually 1 to 3 days on site for a fitted wardrobe or under-stair unit, and 2 to 5 days for a larger media wall with integrated cabinetry. The site visit and quote happen within the first week of your enquiry, so you know dates early. You get a firm install window before deposit, not a vague promise.

  5. 05

Do you offer a free consultation or quote?

Yes — the site visit and the written quote are both free, with no obligation to book. We come to your home, measure the space, talk through what you want and how it will be built, and answer any questions on the spot. Within 48 hours you receive a detailed written quote covering build, install, materials and any optional extras such as a fill-and-sand finish. If it is not the right fit, there is no hard sell and no follow-up pressure.

  6. 06

    What areas do you cover?

SMBI works across Birmingham and roughly a 30-mile radius covering the West Midlands — including Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Tamworth, Lichfield, Bromsgrove and Redditch. If you are outside that radius and the project is the right fit, get in touch and we will talk it through. Most jobs sit inside the M42 ring, which keeps the team close to site and the schedule tight.

  7. 07

    What materials do you use?

Standard build uses MDF carcasses and MR-grade (moisture-resistant) MDF for any painted or wrapped finish — it is stable, holds a finish beautifully, and will not warp or move once installed. For visible joinery we use high-quality sheet material with the right edge banding for the door style chosen. Hardware — hinges, runners, handles — is selected to match the spec, with soft-close as standard. Specific brands and finishes are talked through at the site visit so you see samples before anything is ordered.

  8. 08

Do you do the design as well as the installation?

Yes — design, build and install are all handled by SMBI in-house. The site visit doubles as the design conversation: we measure, sketch the layout, talk through door styles, internal configuration and finishes, then turn that into a quote you can review. There is no separate designer fee. If you already have drawings or Pinterest references, bring them along — we work to your vision and tell you honestly what works and what does not.

  9. 09

    How experienced is the team?

SM Bespoke Interiors Ltd is run by Mackenzie and Scott, who each bring 7 years of hands-on carpentry experience — over a decade of combined trade work behind every project. Scott leads the on-site build with dust extraction set up from day one, and Mackenzie runs the design conversation, the quote and the customer relationship from first contact through to sign-off. You are not handing your home to a sub-contracted crew — the same two people you meet at the site visit are the ones in your house on install day.

  10. 10

    Are you insured?

Yes — SMBI carries full public liability insurance up to £2 million. That covers the work itself and protects your home in the unlikely event of any damage during the build and install. Proof of insurance is available on request before the install begins. Working with an insured tradesperson should be a baseline, not a tick-box.

  11. 11

Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

All vinyl-wrapped material used in our builds carries a 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee — covering the vinyl finish against defects, peeling and fading over time. Every install is signed off by you on the day, and any minor snags spotted afterwards are sorted as soon as possible. The material spec and guarantee details are confirmed in writing on the quote you sign.

  12. 12

What is the process from first contact to finished install?

The process runs in seven stages: enquiry, free site visit, written quote within 48 hours, 50% deposit to confirm the booking and reserve your install slot, on-site build and install with full dust extraction, walk-through and sign-off, then the remaining 50% balance on completion. Any minor snags are sorted as soon as possible after sign-off. From deposit to install is usually 2 to 4 weeks. You always know what stage you are at and what comes next.

  13. 13

Can I see examples of your work?

Yes — the gallery on the homepage shows a mix of fitted wardrobes, media walls and under-stair storage from completed Birmingham projects, with detail shots of finishes and hardware. If you would like to see something specific that is not in the gallery — a particular finish, a tricky alcove, a layout comparable to your room — just ask and we will send it over. References from past clients are available on request before deposit.

  14. 14

Do you do painting and decorating as well?

No — SMBI builds and installs to a clean, ready-to-decorate standard, but we do not paint or decorate. An optional fill-and-sand finish is available as an upsell, which preps the unit ready for your decorator — fixings filled, joints sanded back — so they can go straight to a primer coat. Most clients use their own decorator who is already painting other rooms in the house. We coordinate timing with them if useful.
